Despite LGE’s promise last year to deliver timely updates via its new Software Upgrade Center in South Korea, we are yet to see the company’s performance in terms of software roll-out. So it comes as no surprise that it nearly is at the bottom of AOSMark‘s top vendor’s list for Android OS upgrade, just above ASUS which has the poorest performance in the list. Most of LGE’s phones are still running the first version of Android Oreo, with Android Pie expected to arrive Q1/Q2 this year. One of those devices is the LG G6 which is the company’s 2017 flagship handset.
Now before the Android Pie arrive on the old flagship, it recently just receive another OTA update in Korea. The update is also expected to arrive at all LG G6 units globally, but currently, no dates are available. The new OTA adds AI camera function on the G6, as well as improvements to call quality. This also improves the talkback voice guidance contents for the accessibility, fixes the error when using the developer’s option, and many more.

The large 792.19MB update also upgrades the Android security patch level to December 2018.
The LG G6 features a 5.7-inch QHD+ IPS LCD display in 18:9 aspect ratio. The Always-on display also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 for that rich HDR multimedia contents. As with any other phones today, the LG G6 display is also wrapped with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It was shipped with LG UX 6 UI on top of Android 7.0 Nougat and runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset. Unfortunately, it is only available in 4GB RAM variant, but storage configurations are available up to 128GB.
For the imaging, the LG G6 has a dual rear-facing camera. The regular 13-megapixel f/1.8 serves as the primary camera and includes features like 3-axis OIS, and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). The other 13-megapixel sensor has an f/2.4 fixed-focus wide-angle lens. The cameras record 1080p full HD footage up to 60fps and 4k UHD at 30fps. It also supports HDR video, and a 24-bit/192kHz stereo sound. On the flip side, the selfie cam is a 5-megapixel sensor with dimmer f/2.2 wide-angle lens. It also records 1080p at 30fps.
